Movement patterns of Audubon's Shearwaters and White-tailed Tropicbirds breeding in The Bahamas

PIs: Patrick Jodice (USGS South Carolina Cooperative Fish & Wildlife Research Institute) and William Mackin (West Indian Seabird Atlas)

In 2008 we deployed 12 geolocators on each of these species during their breeding season in the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, Bahamas. We have visited the colonies regularly since then to recover these archival tags (6 recovered from shearwaters).

The research was funded by the US Fish & Wildlife Service and USGS. Support also was provided by Bahamas National Trust.

Below is a summary map of all locations for all 6 birds between June 2008 and June 2009. The shearwater locations appear in red while tropicbird locations appear in green for comparison. Data are currently be analyzed with the expectation of a peer-reviewed paper being developed in Summer 2014.
